we
didn’t have th’things children got now, but we didn’t
hav’em and we didn’t look fer’em. now, y’know
grown ups and children don’t have t’walk as fer as from
here t’th’creek hardly. mama’d let us go, an we
thought it was th’ greatest thing there was y’know –
git t’go t’somebody’s house and stay all night. we
thought we had the biggest time. th’feelin is just as important
as prayin’ in public. in my mind I pray. if you was
courtin’ a boy, and, well, I wouldn’t have that boy if it
was me. but it’s you talkin’ to him, you that’s
marryin’ him. my parents were good about lettin’ us make up our own minds. just fer th’ th’old-fashioned of it, I guess a wood stove is better for me. it heats the house.
